Multan I&I seizes huge quantity of betel nuts near Taunsa

MULTAN: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) impounded a truck loaded with huge quantity betel nuts.

Sources told Customs Today that after the instructions of Director Intelligence & Investigation Asad Abbas, Additional Director Saeed Ahmad Watto have strengthened the intelligence network and increased monitoring of popular transport routes.

During the course, a truck was spotted and intercepted near Taunsa. Checking of the vehicle led to recovery of betel nut, which was being transported in the garb of scrap. The goods were belonged to notorious smuggler Haji Sadiq Achakzai (Quetta Sitara Goods).

However, when the field intelligence Unit of Dera Ghazi Khan team started to move the seized truck, several vehicles carrying armed persons attempted to attack the field intelligence Unit .Smugglers attacked and attempted to snatch the seized vehicle. However, Customs field intelligence unit team efficiently thwarted every attempt of the armed persons and safely brought the vehicle to its premises.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation has recovered almost 26755 kilograms of betel nuts during action and it was almost Rs6 million in the market.

Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation had tightened the noose around the smugglers across the country and giving tough time to the smugglers.

It may be mentioned here that the trucks and containers transporting smuggled goods are now being escorted by armed persons in luxury vehicles such as Vigo and Prado.
