MULTAN: The work on the first phase of Multan Metro Bus will begin in March. The bus will facilitate 96,000 commuters daily. The project will be completed with the cost of Rs 30 billion, said Commissioner Multan division Asad Ullah Khan.
The Commissioner revealed that an integrated transport system would be developed by linking Metro Bus with the city service. He said that the first phase of the Metro project, named as Corridor-1, was consisted of 18.5 kilometre long route, starting from Bahauddin Zakariya University and ending at Chowk Kumharanwala via Bosan Road, Fish Market, Daulat Gate, Chungi No-14, BCG Chowk and Vehari Chowk. He said that the initially approved PC-1 was amended and a 12 kilometre long flyover would be constructed between Northern by-pass and BCG Chowk. He claimed that the government would have to acquire just 118 kanals of land instead of 180 kanals while it would also help protect utility lines. Giving further details, he told the journalists that Rs. 4.23 billion would be spent on land acquisition and Rs. 2 billion civil works.
