MULTAN: Multan Waste Management Company (MWMC) was facing monthly loss of over 2 million rupees as a cement factory stopped waste purchase from MWMC since last four months.
According to MWMC sources,the company had inked an agreement in July 2012 with DG Khan cement factory for the sale of its waste after collecting it from the city. The company was selling about 550 tons waste to DG Khan cement daily.
However, the cement factory shutdown its cement plant and also stopped waste buying from MWMC and demanded reduction in rates.The cement factory was purchasing waste at Rs51 rupees per ton material and Rs500 transportation charges with total of Rs 551 per ton from MWMC.“Now this cement factory administration wants to purchase waste at Rs 300 per ton”, a source said. The DG Khan Cement was not purchasing the waste for last four months and the company faced about Rs eight million loss during the period, he added.
When approached Managing Director,Imran Noor, confirmed that DG Khan cement factory didnot purchase waste from MWMC during last four months. He said that they were dumping about over 600 tons waste from 80 Union Councils of the city at their landfill site at Habiba Siyal daily.He said that they were negotiating with the DG Khan cement factory and hoped the cement factory would start purchasing the waste soon from them. He added that they had informed the district government about the matter.
