NAB arrests former customs appraiser involved in embezzlement

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested a former customs official from Lahore on the charge of embezzlement and making assets through unfair means on Thursday.

Sources told Customs Today that NAB has booked a customs officer due to his alleged involvement in corruption in Defense Housing Authority Lahore.

Sources said that Iftikhar Cheema was appointed as principal appraiser in Sialkot and than in Lahore. He was involved in making assets through unfair means. Sources said that Iftikhar Cheema has property worth millions of rupees in posh areas of Lahore.

During his appointment in Lahore and Sialkot, he purchased a number of plots that are more than his income. He has a plot in DHA Lahore worth more than Rs 500 million. On the other hand, NAB has also detected his plot in Johar Town worth more than Rs 20 million. Another property adjacent to Johar Town has also detected been by the NAB which is almost 12 kanals  worth more than Rs 200 million.

NAB sources said that Iftikhar Cheema has number of bank accounts. He has saved millions of rupees in his bank accounts. After intelligence information Director General National Accountability Bureau launched investigations against the accused person Iftikhar Cheema.

Investigation team of NAB produced him before the Accountability Court and asked for his physical remand that has approved for 7 days. After investigation from the accused he will be produced before the court on 8th of June.

NAB has launched investigations from the accused and will dig out more persons behind the corruption and embezzlement scam in Pakistan Customs.
