ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau has ordered a probe against State Minister for Health Saira Afzal Tarar and the Pakistan Medical Dental Council chairman on charges of corruption in affiliating 12 medical colleges to the council.
The anti-graft body executive board meeting, held on Tuesday under the chair of NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal, also approved two corruption reference, two investigations and three inquiries. The board authorized to file a corruption reference against former state minister for railways and communications Javed Ashraf Qazi, former railway secretary Saeed ul Zafar, former general manager Hamid Hassan Butt, former general manager operations Iqbal Samad Khan, former member finance Khurshid Ahmad Khan, former director Akhtar Ali Baig, former superintendent Abdul Ghafar and Director Hasnain Construction Company Muhammad Ramzan Sheikh, Chief Executive Unicon Consulting Services Pervez Latif, Director Max Corporation Development Malaysia Muhammad Kasa in a case of misusing authority and causing Rs2 billion loss to the national exchequer.
The second corruption reference was approved against former WAPADA chairman Tariq Hamid and former members, Muhammad Khalid, Muhammad Mushtaq and Imtiaz Anjum for misusing authority and allotting 150 megawatts power project to a private company in breach of NEPRA, PEPRA and ECC rules and causing millions of rupees loss to the national exchequer.
The NAB also authorized an investigation against Capital Development Authority former chairman Farkhand Iqbal, former member state Khalid Mirza and other CDA officials in a case of misuse of authority and selling commercial plots on low rates, causing a loss of Rs494.33 million to the national kitty.
The meeting approved two separate investigations against former province minister Abdul Rauf Siddiqui and Muhammad Adil Siddiqui, Dr Sarwat Fahem, Mushtaq Ali Laghari, Mehmmod Ahmad, Ghulam Nabi Meher, Syed Imdad Ali Shah, Syed Umeed Ali Shah in a case of illegal appointments in Sindh Small Industries and illegal allotment of plots in Sindh, causing a loss of Rs435.4 million to the national exchequer. The NAB also authorized an inquiry against former director-general Peshawar Development Authority Sahibzada Saeed Ahmad, former DG Zahir Shah and former general manager Abdul Haleem Paracha in a case of allotment of plots illegally, causing Rs75.27 million loss to the national exchequer.
The NAB also authorized an inquiry against former MPA from Peshawar Tamash Khan and Balochistan minister health Rehmat Baloch in a case of possessing assets beyond the known source of income.
The board also decided to close an inquiry against former director Distance Learning Bahauddin Zakariya University Dr Muhammad Ishaq Fani to insufficient evidence.
