NAB to file petitions in courts for early hearing of corruption references

ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (R) Javed Iqbal has directed that petitions be filed in the respective accountability courts (ACs) for early hearing of corruption cases so that wealth amounting to Rs 900 billion looted by plunderers from national kitty be recovered from them.

“Petitions be filed in accountability courts for early hearing of the corruption cases so that national wealth amounting to Rs 900 billion looted by corrupt elements be recovered from them and be deposited in national kitty. The plunderers could be got convicted from the courts on the basis of evidence and as per law”, he said this while presiding over a meeting held here in NAB headquarters Tuesday to review the performance of NAB.

About ongoing 499 inquiries in different regional offices of NAB, he directed that he should be told since how long these inquiries were running in different regional offices of NAB and as to why these inquiries and investigations have not been taken to their logical end within the period of 10 months as laid down in NAB Laws.

As many as 1138 corruption references filed by NAB are pending the hearing at present in different accountability courts. They include 347 references from NAB Lahore, 275 from NAB Karachi, 185 from NAB KP, 97 from NAB Balochistan, 171 from NAB Rawalpindi, 34 from NAB Multan and 29 from NAB Sukkar.
