LONDON: The National Broadband Network is coming to another 1.5 million Queensland homes in the next three years, but the size of the state means not everyone will have access to the same technology.

The next Queensland rollout will have homes from Brisbane to western Queensland and the far north connected, including another 663,000 in Brisbane.

But not everyone will receive the same connection.

While some homes will have their NBN connected through existing hybrid fibre-coaxial (HFC) pay TV cable, others will receive fibre-to-the-node, while some will connect through fibre-to-the-premises and others still will see wireless connections only.

Queensland NBN corporate affairs manager Kylie Lindsay said it was the best solution for the state.

“Due to the nature and size of Queensland, we’re planning to use a mix of technologies to deliver the network at the least cost to taxpayers and as quickly as possible, using the best fit solution for each area,” she said in a statement.

“This means you may have seen your area listed before in a previous plan, but it may have moved due to a change in the anticipated technology in the new rollout plans.”

The government plans to have 8 million premises connected to the national network by 2020.
