Nepalese customs seize gold, foreign currency

KATHMANDU: Customs authorities have arrested an Indian citizen, with 6 kg gold and UAE Dirham 15,500 at the Tribhuvan International Airport on his arrival from Dubai. According to police, Muhammad Shanood had arrived form Dubai at night.

He was held with the undeclared gold and foreign currency during a security check after he got through the Arrival Customs Area in the international terminal building. The gold and cash were found concealed in a false bottom of a belt that Shanood was wearing. A customs official said that an investigation was launched to establish the motive behind the smuggling and the man’s nexus in Kathmandu and possibly elsewhere.
