New US envoy hails economic achievements of present government

ISLAMABAD: The newly appointed US ambassador to Pakistan, David Hale paid a courtesy call on Finance Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar here. He was accompansied by Deputy Head of Mission, Jonathan Pratt and other senior US embassy officials.

Welcoming the US envoy, the Federal Minister hoped he would play his due role in further enhancing the Pak-US relations.

Ambassador Hale on this occasion recalled the recent visit of the Prime Minister of Pakistan to USA and stated that it had been very useful in further strenthening the longstanding bilateral relations.

The US ambassador appreciated the economic achievements of the present government and stated that the positive progress was being acknowedged by international institutions including the IMF. He said that the US administration is encouraging US companies to take part in the business and investment opportunities in Pakistan. He said that the US companies had shown keen interest in Pakistan during the recently held Clean Energy Business Opportunities Conference in Washington.

The Minister stated that Governemnt of Pakistan wanted to promote private sector participation in all economic sectors and would welcome US investors who wished to take up projects in the country. He stated that having achieved the objective of macro economic stabilisation, the government was now fully focused on economic growth which would also require contribution of foreign investors. Such investors would be facilitated in every possible way, he said.

The Minister wished ambassador Hale all the best for his new assignment and assured him of the cooperation of Ministry of Finance in furthering the objective of stronger bilateral relations.
