ISLAMABAD: The National Logistics Corporation (NLC) has launched its first-ever cargo transport service from China to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) via Pakistan under the International Road Transport (TIR) system.

The maiden shipment, comprising electronic goods, departed from Kashgar, China, and is en route to Dubai’s Jebel Ali Port. This development shortens the transit duration to just 10 days compared to the 30 days typically required for sea routes.

The journey’s first leg concluded at the NLC Dry Port in Sost, Gilgit-Baltistan, where a ceremonial event was held to commemorate the occasion. Senior officials from the Gilgit-Baltistan government, customs authorities, and the local business community attended the event.

The route leverages Pakistan’s geographical location as a bridge between China and Gulf states, providing a shorter, more efficient alternative to traditional maritime channels. NLC’s trucks will complete the Kashgar-to-Karachi leg in eight days, with containers shipped onward to Dubai in two days by sea.

This initiative is a strategic step in operationalizing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) while reinforcing the Khunjerab Pass as a year-round trade gateway. Officials have lauded the new service for reducing logistics costs and transit times, which will benefit exporters and importers by opening new trade opportunities.

The business community has responded positively, highlighting the service’s potential to enhance regional economic activities, diversify trade, and establish Pakistan as a pivotal logistics hub connecting Asia to global markets.
