Non-duty paid cigarettes worth Rs 0.3 million seized

LAHORE: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Broadening of Tax Base (BTB) has seized non-duty paid cigarettes of various brands including Cricket and Dubai worth Rs 0.3 million from Sheikhupura area .

Sources told Customs Today that that the BTB Lahore, on the instructions of Commissioner Yasmin Fatima and Additional Commissioner Azhar Jehangir, constituted a team comprising Assistant Commissioner Salman Naveed Butt, Assistant Commissioner Asim Dilshad and Nasir Jamal. The team raided various places in Sheikhpura and seized over 1.5 million cigarette sticks.

The cigarettes were made locally and being distributed in the outskirts of Sheikhupura and surrounding areas. The FBR authorities started further investigations after registering a case of smuggling against the suspects.

It is necessary to mention here that FBR directed all field formations to adopt zero tolerance policy towards smuggling. Anyone who found involved in smuggling should be dealt according to law.
