MUSCAT: Public Administration to Combat Drugs and Psychotropic Substances at Shinas arrested a citizen for possession and trafficking of drugs, according to an official source at the Oman custom department. The source said that the accused was coordinating with an international gang to smuggle narcotics into the Sultanate. A Lee-Metford rifle was found in the home of the accused and he had also concealed a huge quantity of drugs in some deserted farms.
Similarly, a citizen and an Asian expatriate were arrested in Buraimi on charges of possession of narcotics. The accused had in their possession 22 capsules of psychotropic substances. They were referred to the public prosecution for further legal action.
Officials regularly calls upon citizens and residents to co-operate with them to combat this scourge and to inform them about any information that will help in the detection of smugglers and drug dealers. They are advised to call the emergency telephone (9999) or report to the nearest police station.
