Pak Customs, KMC initiate beautification of Aziz Bhatti Park

KARACHI: The beautification work of Aziz Bhatti Park and construction of wetland for biological waste water treatment cycling project has been initiated by the collective efforts of the Pakistan Customs and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).

MCC Preventive Collector Syed Muhammad Tariq Huda, Vice Admiral- Commander Pakistan Navy Arifullah Hussaini, Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui and Administrator KMC Rauf Akhtar Farooqui on Tuesday briefed the media about the beautification work and construction of wetland during a press conference.

Speaking to media, Collector S M Tariq Huda said that 20-acre wetland of Aziz Bhatti Park is to be developed on modern basis and this is not only a project of Pakistan Customs, but the people of Karachi have assured to take the ownership of the said project.

The Collector further said that Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan has decided to beautify the parks of the city and Pakistan Customs will play its due role in this regard. “The Karachi gives us the honour and repute and now it is high time to pay it back in terms of renovating and constructing its infrastructure,” Collector added. The Collector said that Karachi is a hub of Customs activities and 40per cent of the total revenue of the country comes from Pakistan Customs.

Vice Admiral-Commander Pakistan Navy Arifullah Hussain said that it was a good sign that all stake holders are on same page in order to improve the infrastructure of the city. He termed the said project “a united effort of private, civil and military leadership and requested the people to play their due role in improving the infrastructure of the city.

Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui while addressing the media said that we all should have to consider Karachi “as a home” and contribute in the development of the city.

On the occasion, he lauded the efforts of Collector-Customs and Administrator KMC. Administrator KMC Rauf Akhtar Farooqui said that the revival of Aziz Bhatti Park has been started and if the public participation is being continued in those projects, then the encroachment would not be existed on parks and playgrounds.

On the occasion, Farooqui announced that a localized treatment plant is to be installed at Aziz Bhatti Park and the KMC authorities would not allow the land grabbers to encroach the land of the park. “No one was ready to take ownership of Karachi in the past, and change in city municipal system at regular interval has deteriorated the infrastructure of the city,” KMC Administrator added.
