LAHORE: Trade activities between Pakistan and India were observed at lower level in November 2016 as compare to October and September because of various reasons, especially after ban on import of raw cotton from India.
It is pertinent to mention here that plant protection department has suspended import of Indian raw cotton. Pakistan Customs has received notification of the Plant Protection Department after that customs officials at Wagah border stopped entry of more than 50 trucks into Pakistan loaded with raw cotton.
Import of Indian tomatoes has already slowed down since end of July because of good local crop. Import of Indian fruits, especially Indian bananas was a major import but in last two months it is at zero as Pakistani importers have no interest to import bananas from India.
Wagah Land Freight Unit (LFU) officials said that imports by Pakistan have fallen up to 50 percent in November. While on the other hand exports of Pakistani items has increased because of increased demand of Pakistan gypsum, cement and dry dates in Indian market.
