ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has signed an important Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with global cryptocurrency exchange Binance to explore the use of blockchain technology in the digital tokenisation of government assets, the Ministry of Finance said on Friday.

According to the ministry, the proposed project may cover government assets worth up to $2 billion. Officials emphasised that the MoU reflects the government’s intent to examine modern financial technologies while ensuring that all steps remain fully compliant with Pakistani laws and required approvals.

Finance Minister said the MoU sends a strong signal of reforms and demonstrates Pakistan’s commitment to adopting innovative systems.

Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) described the development as an important milestone for Pakistan’s future, noting that the country aims to build a more transparent and modern framework for global investors.

CZ added that Binance would extend technical support and training under the collaboration.

However, the Ministry of Finance clarified that the MoU is preliminary, and a final agreement may take up to six months to conclude.
