Pakistan Customs braces-up to achieve revenue target by end of FY 2014-15

KARACHI: The Pakistan Customs is adopting very clear lines and strategies in order to ensure the achievement of revenue target by the end of current fiscal year 2014-15.

A senior officer of Pakistan Customs informed Customs Today that the authorities concerned while following the directives of their high-ups were paying special emphasis on liquefying the bank guarantees, which are due for encashment, adding that the Customs authorities would en-cash only those bank guarantees which have been ripen.

He further said that the recovery from adjudged cases was another big source for customs, on which authorities concerned were working, adding that the recoveries in this regard since the year 1990 were being collected by the collectorates for achieving revenue target.

To a query, the officer said that the authorities concerned of Pakistan Customs were following Section 202 of the Customs act, 1969 in recovering adjudged revenue.

“Speeding up the auction process is another sector on which the Customs authorities are working, adding that auction of multiple commodities would be held in upcoming days”, he added.

He further informed that the authorities concerned have also speeded up the legal proceedings against those cases, pending for more than six months in respective courts.

“As per the special directives of Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Tariq Bajwa and Member Customs Nisar Muhammad, the Customs authorities are adopting non-traditional activities and getting details of the cases pending in the different courts”, he asserted.

Replying to another query, the officer assured that customs will achieve the set target for the current fiscal year by adopting the effective strategies and measures.

 “We are focusing on achieving monthly revenue targets as it is ultimately linked with the annual revenue targets and the authorities concerned of all the field formation collectorates have almost achieved the revenue targets during nine months of the FY 2014-15”, he added.
