Pakistan Customs seeks help from coast guards to curb smuggling in Balochistan

KARACHI: The Pakistan Customs seeks full assistance of coast guards in order to counter smuggling activities in Balochistan and its adjacent areas.

In this regard, Chief Collector Enforcement-South Muhammad Nazim Saleem has written a letter to Director General Coast Guards to take measures jointly for curbing the menace of smuggling from Balochistan and its adjacent areas.

In the letter, the Chief Collector-Enforcement (South) Muhammad Nazim Saleem lauded the efforts of Coast Guards officials in order to tackle the smuggling activities and take effective measures in this regard.

The Chief Collector Nazim further informed the Coast Guards DG that the Customs authorities were ready to render all its available resources to curb the smuggling activities, adding that the Customs authorities were going to beef-up their surveillance on the check-posts at the entry and exit points of the province.

Nazim hoped that the Coast Guards would also extend its full cooperation in uprooting the smuggling activities from the country.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Chief Collector Enforcement-South Muhammad Nazim Saleem has already written a letter to the Inspector General (IG) of Frontier Corps, Balochistan in which he expressed his gratitude towards assistance of FC to Customs authorities for curtailing the smuggling.

Sources informed Customs Today that the FBR has decided to seek assistance of all law enforcing agencies in order to eliminate the menace of smuggling from the country.

They further disclosed that the government has adopted a clear strategy against the smuggling activities and the recent steps of Customs authorities towards eliminating the smuggling are the open evidence of the strategy made by the government.

It is pertinent to mention here that the government has formed an Inter-Agencies Task Force (IATF) comprising the officials of law enforcing agencies including ANF, Pakistan Customs, Rangers, FC, Coast Guard, Maritime Security and others to initiate crackdown against the smuggling activities.

Sources further revealed that the Customs authorities would also write appreciation letters to the authorities concerned of Rangers, Maritime Security Agencies and others.
