In the first operation on July 24, Customs officials intercepted a prime mover arriving from China bearing registration number TMS-416 after receiving credible intelligence. A detailed inspection uncovered specially fabricated hidden compartments in the vehicle’s doors, dashboard and other sections.

Officials recovered 317 old and used refurbished smartphones of various models concealed inside the vehicle. The seized phones are valued at approximately Rs77 million.

An FIR (No. 01/2026) was registered on July 27, and investigations are underway to identify and apprehend those involved in the smuggling network and its facilitators.

In a separate operation on July 27, Customs officers examined a container held at Sost Dry Port following a specific tip-off. The search led to the recovery of around 200 cartons containing 3,540 bottles of foreign-origin liquor, along with 42 cartons of pork meat and other Chinese food items.

According to the statement, the edible goods had been imported in violation of SRO 237(I)/2019. The estimated value of the seized goods is approximately Rs81 million. The recovered items have been taken into official custody, while inventory, valuation and legal formalities are being completed in accordance with the law.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has directed all field formations to maintain heightened vigilance, strengthen risk profiling of cross-border cargo and ensure rigorous scrutiny of consignments in line with the applicable legal and regulatory framework.
