KARACHI: Pakistan’s Ministry of Commerce has announced a major facilitation measure for mango exporters by granting a special exemption from banking requirements for exports to Iran and Central Asian states.

According to an official order, the government has allowed Pakistani mango exports to Iran and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries without certain mandatory banking conditions normally required under foreign exchange regulations.

The exemption will specifically apply to mango consignments transported through Iran via land routes to Central Asian markets. Officials say the move is aimed at boosting Pakistan’s fruit exports and improving access to regional markets during the peak mango export season.

Under the special arrangement, the Ministry of Commerce granted relaxation in the Export Policy Order and provided a temporary exemption from State Bank of Pakistan foreign exchange regulations for mango exporters.

The facility will remain effective from June 1 to September 30, coinciding with Pakistan’s annual mango export season.

Pakistan is among the world’s leading mango-producing countries and exports the fruit to multiple international destinations, including the Middle East, Europe, and Central Asia. Exporters have long demanded easier trade procedures and banking relaxations for regional markets where conventional banking channels are often difficult or time-consuming.

Trade experts believe the latest decision could help increase export volumes and reduce logistical hurdles for exporters seeking access to Iran and landlocked CIS economies. The relaxation is also expected to improve trade connectivity between Pakistan and Central Asian countries through regional transit routes.

Industry representatives welcomed the move, saying it would provide much-needed support to exporters facing rising transportation costs and complex payment mechanisms in regional trade.

Pakistan’s mango industry contributes significantly to the country’s agricultural exports and provides employment opportunities to thousands of farmers, traders, and logistics workers every year. Officials hope the latest relief package will enhance export competitiveness and generate additional foreign exchange earnings for the country.

The Ministry of Commerce has not yet released estimates regarding the expected increase in mango exports under the new exemption policy.
