Pakistan generates Rs 137.4m as tax on imports worth Rs 1.34b from India

LAHORE: Pakistan has imported items worth Rs 1.34 billion from April 1 to April 15 from India via Wagha border, while total taxes worth Rs 137.4 million were collected during the period.

As per the details available with Customs Today, Pakistan imported tomatoes, garlic, polyethylene, cotton and rolling machinery from India.

Pakistan imported 6,005,946kg tomatoes worth Rs 280 million, while an amount of Rs 16.8 million was generated as income tax on the import. On the other hand, garlic was also a big import from India and during 15 days of April, as 301,946kg garlic was imported from the neighbouring country on which income tax to the tune of Rs 1.4 million was collected.

Pakistan imported 10 million kg soya and other relevant products from India which cost Rs 523 million. The government collected Rs 27.5 million as sales tax, Rs 1.1 million as additional sales tax and Rs 26.88 million as income tax on its import.

Pakistan also spent Rs 9 million on import of carbon dioxide from India through Wagha trade route.

Pakistan imported polyethylene worth Rs 15.7 million, while sales tax collected on polyethylene was Rs 2.8 million. An amount of Rs 1.1 million was also collected as income tax on the item.

As a whole, Pakistan imported goods worth Rs 1.34 billion from India, while duties collected from imported items were Rs 34 million, sales tax Rs 48 million and income tax to the tune of Rs 54 million.
