Pakistan, Iran agree to start ferry service between Gwadar, Chabahar

KARACHI: A team of Pakistan’s Ports and Shipping Ministry, after completing its visit of the Chabahar Port of Iran, has finalized matters regarding ferry service between the two countries.

According to the source, Ports and Shipping Ministry team held several meetings with the high government officials of Iran. In the meetings, ways to expand cooperation between the two countries in the field of shipping and ports were discussed.

The meeting of the third joint committee of port and maritime cooperation of Pakistan and Iran will be held from April 29 to May 2 in Tehran. The port and shipping authorities have finalized arrangements to start ferry services between Karachi and Gwadar and also to Chabahar, Iran, from both the Pakistani port cities, source added.

For transporting pilgrims two passenger ferries have been shortlisted by the officials for operations between Karachi and Chahbahar Iran, Karachi, Ormara and Gwadar. The arrangements in Iran are being finalized by the team with carrier Samsun Ferry which has a capacity of 600 passengers and the service will run from Karachi and Gwadar ports.
