KARACHI: Pakistan witnessed a sharp increase in capital outflows during the first two months of the current fiscal year, with the State Bank reporting no new foreign direct investment during the period.
According to the State Bank of Pakistan, capital outflow reached $491 million during the first two months of fiscal year 2026-27.
The central bank said a significant outflow was also recorded in August, instead of an increase in foreign direct investment.
According to the State Bank, $311 million was withdrawn from Pakistan in August 2026, compared with an outflow of $160 million in August last year.
The central bank said $180 million was withdrawn from Pakistan in July 2026.
During July and August of the previous fiscal year, Pakistan recorded a combined capital outflow of $355 million.
