Pakistan to receive 1,000MW initially through CASA-1000: Sartaj Aziz

ISLAMABAD: The power import through the Casa-1000 electricity transmission project can attain a level of 4,000 MW, Sartaj Aziz, the prime minister’s foreign affairs adviser, has said.

The Casa project, on completion, will allow the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan to sell their excess hydropower to fill supply gaps in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

In start of the project, Pakistan will receive 1,000MW and Afghanistan 300 MW from export of 1,300MW power from both countries.

Mr Aziz termed it a big project and said that on completion the power import through this line can reach up to 4000 MW.

It is also important to consider that remarks by Sartaj Aziz, came a day after Pakistan and Afghanistan signed the agreement on electricity transit fees.
