Pakistani arrested in Sri Lanka with 600g heroin

COLOMBO: The Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) of Sri Lanka Police on late Wednesday arrested a Pakistani national at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake when he attempted to smuggle in 600 grams of heroin.

The 44-year-old Pakistani was arrested with the drugs after he arrived in Colombo from Karachi, Pakistan.

The Police Narcotics Bureau officers arrested the suspect when he was hurrying to leave the airport departure lounge in a suspicious manner, Deputy Customs Director Parakrama Basnayake said. The drugs were found concealed inside the baggage handles.

According to the Customs official, the heroin haul was worth over Rs. 6 million. The suspect with the heroin haul has been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.
