Pakistan’s trade deficit widens by 34.78pc: FPCCI making economic revival plans

ISLAMABAD—Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) President M Adrees said that the federation was developing short, medium and long term plans through consultation with chambers and trade bodies for economic revival and would fully support the government in uplift of national economy.

As per data by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, Pakistan’s trade deficit widened by 34.78 per cent in the first five months of the current fiscal year from a year ago. In absolute terms, the trade deficit reached to $10.45 billion in July-November 2014 from $7.75 billion over the corresponding period of last year, suggested data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics released here on Wednesday.

FPCCI President said the business community has to contribute more effectively in improving the tax revenue, which was essential for better economic development of the country. He said government should privatize all loss making commercial organizations as it was not the business of government to run business entities. He assured that the FPCCI would deliver up to the expectations of business community and work hard for resolving their problems.

On the occasion, UBG Chairman Ali Malik said the Planning Commission was working on a 10 point agenda to improve the economy and businessmen should give their proposals for the said agenda in order to steer the country out of difficulties.
