ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO), Peshawar, seized narcotics including hashish, opium and heroin worth Rs51.40million during first seven months (July to January) of Financial Year (FY) 2016-17.
Additional Collector Peshawar Fazal-e-Samad told Customs Today that, following the border management’s steps under the National Action Plan, the ASO has intensified anti-smuggling operations in Khyber Pakhtun Khawa.
Fazal said that during first 7 months the ASO seized 144.05 kilogram hashish valued Rs14.05 million out of which 4.6 kilogram hashish priced Rs0.23million was seized during the month of January.
He told Customs Today that from July to January the ASO seized 38.7 kilogram opium worth Rs7.35 million out of which 32 kilogram valued Rs6.40million was seized in the month of January adding the ASO seized 12 kilogram heroin worth Rs30million during the month of January.
Fazal-e-Samad said that during the month of January the ASO seized 48.6 kilogram narcotics worth Rs36.63 million whereas the total narcotics seized during first 7 months was 1947.05 kilogram which valued Rs51.40 million in the international market.
Fazal-e-Samad added that the ASO is utilizing its maximum capacity to curb smuggling attempts across and inside the border. He expressed the hope that the ASO will continue its extraordinary performance to break the smuggling chain and contribute a handsome amount to revenue.
