Peshawar Customs collects double revenue in first half of July: Collector Qurban Ali Khan

PESHAWAR: The Customs Collectorate has earned double revenue in first 15 days of July 2017-2018 as compared with the collection in the month of July 2016-2017 by the Customs House Peshawar.

Talking to Customs Today Collector Qurban Ali Khan said that Customs Peshawar has collected Rs500 millions during first 15 days of July 2016-2017, while it had collected Rs 252 millions in the same period of July 2014-2015 which shows that double revenue was generated.

The Collector has also called for early recovery of the delayed duties in order to increase the revenue collection target.

Collector Qurban said that due to opening of closed Customs Stations the revenue collection has showed an up rise in the first half of July 2016-2017.

He said the Collectorate collected double revenue while the sales tax collections also surpassed its figure during the said period, he added

He further said that the addition of more technical centers at Torkham Customs Station has decreased the leakage to the revenue collections and Customs Stuff at Torkham have been directed to assess the Importers in times of quarry.

The Directorate of Anti Smuggling Division has added part to the revenue collection by impounding drugs, clothes and NDP vehicles of worth millions during the said period,he said.

When asked about how come revenue collections will increase if the problems faced by importers were solved he responded that FBR welcome to work for solving the problems been faced by importers and exporters.

Sometimes by error the goods which cleared by customs staff found to be seized for undeclared papers due to which the importers and exporters bear losses.

He urged to hear the complaints and problems of Customs clearing agents in order to coordinate for establishment of smooth transit.

He called for use of modern customs applications to get rid of the difficulties been faced by importers. He further said that the trends have been changing and export to Afghanistan has been increasing after a decline shown after the closure of various borders with Afghanistan.

He encouraged the Customs staff to use available resources in order to crush the use of NDP vehicles as well other products which has been sold out without paying customs duties.

He directed to keep close eye on big markets where goods have been brought from Afghanistan, China and India for further distribution in the country in order to sustain the increase in revenue collection in month of July 2016-2017.
