Peshawar customs impounds cloths & vehicle valued Rs21m

ISLAMABAD: The staff of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Peshawar seized six metric tons of foreign origin polyester cloths along with an offending vehicle worth Rs21million at Peshawar Interchange on 23rd of February 2017.

According to Muhammad Saleem, Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Peshawar, the I&I got a tip-off that a huge quantity of polyester cloths was being smuggled into the country. A picket was set up near Peshawar Motorway Interchange by the Drug the Cell which intercepted a mini Mazda truck fully loaded with foreign origin fabric near Motorway Toll Plaza.

The Drug Cell of the Customs I&I Peshawar’s search led to the recovery of polyester cloths measured 51000 meters, weighed six metric tons and valued Rs19.00million whereas the value of the impounded vehicle was Rs2.00million.

An FIR has been lodged against the smugglers and one person has also been arrested on the spot.
