Peshawar Customs observes 13.5pc growth in tax collection up to May

PESHAWAR: The Model Custom Collectorate showed 13.52 percent growth during the first 11 months (July-May) of the current fiscal year the last fiscal year 2015 by collecting Rs 2.166 billion more revenue.

The Peshawar Customs collected Rs 18.192 billion in 11 months against the previous year’s collection of Rs 16.026 billion.

Sources told Customs Today that it collected Rs 6.582 billion under the head of custom duty up to May, 2016 as compared to Rs 5.421 billion last year. A positive difference in this sector recorded at Rs 1.161 billion (21.43 percent).

In wake of sales tax on import, it generated Rs 4.324 billion against Rs 4.684 billion collecting during he previous year. A negative difference in this section is stood at Rs 359.79 million (-7.68 percent).

Under the head of sales tax levied as federal excise duty, the Peshawar Customs collected Rs 2.060 billion against Rs 2.468 billion collection made during last year whereas the collection of current year remained below Rs 408.35 million (16.55) percent than last year.

The customs collected Rs 605.35 million up to May, 2016 as sales tax value addition on commercial importers against Rs 620.69 million collected up to May, 2015 with a negative difference of Rs 15.34 million (1.88 percent)

Under the head of federal excise duty on imports, it generated Rs 221.13 million in running year against previous year’s collection of Rs 213.14 million observing a slight positive change of Rs 7.99 million (3.73 percent)

The Peshawar Customs collected Rs 4.398 billion up to May, 2016 as withholding tax against Rs 2.618 billion of May, 2015. The collectorate generated Rs 1.686 billion more revenue than last year and showed 67.98 percent growth.

The sources said that the collectorate was making efforts to achieve the revenue target of running fiscal year.
