Peshawar Customs seizes smuggled goods worth Rs 24.22m last week

PESHAWAR: The Collector Custom has launched a special campaign to curb the growing menace of smuggling and seized a large quantity of smuggled goods worth millions of rupees in various raids during the last one week.

The campaign has been launched under the supervision of Muhammad Ali Asad Khan, Assistant Collector Anti-Smuggling.

Giving breakup of the seizures, a spokesman for the Customs Collectorate said that the custom mobile squad No.1 confiscated 4,0500 yards imported cloth, 120 LED TV and 18 bags of dandasa from a truck near Akbarpura being smuggled to Punjab. The estimated cost of the seized goods stated to be Rs 24.22 millions.

In other activity, the same squad seized 110 bags of imported black tea from a vehicle No.C-8629 in Peshawar city, and confiscated the vehicle.

In the third activity, mobile squad No.2 confiscated 4752 packets of foreign origin juices, 150 compressors, 57 cartons of foreign soaps, 12 carton cigarettes, 103 LED TVs and three carton foreign quality toothpaste and other goods.

The campaign against smuggling would continue, he said adding other law enforcing agencies cooperation was a must to this effect.
