Peshawar Customs seizes smuggled items worth Rs 200m in 80 raids

PESHAWAR: The Customs Department, during its ongoing anti-smuggling operation, has seized non-duty paid goods worth Rs 200 million in more than 80 raids.

The Model Customs Collectorate, in collaboration with Customs Intelligence and Investigation, has started a grand blockade and surveillance operation at main arteries of Peshawar in order to check smuggling of contraband goods to other parts of the country.

On the directives of Customs Intelligence Director General Imtiaz Ahmad, Peshawar Collector Qurban Ali Khan is supervising the operation. The focal persons of the operation are Additional Director Ziaullah Shams and Additional Collector Fazle-Samad, while Deputy Director Khayal Muhammad and Assistant Collector Ali Asad are leading the operation.

The seized items include tea, cloth, carrier vehicles and non-duty paid cars, and mostly belong to smuggled Afghan Transit Trade goods.
