Peshawar Customs suffers Rs38.47m revenue shortfall during six months

PESHAWAR: The Modal Customs Collectorate Peshawar (MCCP) generated Rs9195.75million collections under the heads of various duties in the last six months of Financial Year 2016-17 against the previous figure of Rs10178.96million up to January 17, 2017. So the shortfall is Rs38.47milliom and it is 14.53 in percentage.

According to statistical section of Peshawar Customs House, the house collected Rs3538.88million against the figure of Rs3925.47million under head of custom in previous year having difference with minus Rs375.07million while the difference in percentage is minus Rs9.85million percent up to January 17.

Likewise under head of Sales Tax on Import, the house collected Rs778.68million against the previous year of Rs1189.12million collections of the six months up to January 17 with a total difference of minus Rs375.07million while it is Rs15.09million minus in percentage.

Under head of Federal Excise Duty on Imports, Rs84.15million revenue was collected while the figure of the previous year in this category was Rs122.62million.

Poor border management and averting bids of smuggling have caused downward trend to revenue collection. The smugglers have adopted illegal measures to avoid fines and transported their goods through unauthorized routes due to strict vigilance on Torkham border.
