Peshawar Customs using all available resources against smuggling: ADC Faysal Bokhari

PESHAWAR: Faysal Bokhari the Additional Director Customs Intelligence Peshawar said that Anti Smuggling Organization of this Collectorate is doing their job efficiently to cope with the notorious elements.

According to details told by Faysal Bokhari while talking with Customs Today during exclusive talk, anti smuggling organization of I&I (Intelligence and Investigation) Peshawar is working 24/7 to control smugglers and tax evaders.

He said it is very hard to working in current circumstances because of prevailing pandemic of COVID19, adding that pursuing the directions of Director I&I Peshawar he has enhanced the vigilance throughout the region for prevention of smuggling activities. He added it is important to mention here that ‘we are focusing on both sides: through roads as well as GDs (goods declaration) using information technology’.

He said that despite the CoronaVirus I&I office is still concentrating on these activities as smugglers took advantage of such situation. He said “we are paid to work we cannot leave the country at the mercy of these criminals”.

Answering a query he said that during month of March 2020 the Directorate made several crackdowns against the tax evaders, smugglers and drug traffickers. Telling the details he said that I&I seized smuggled goods and vehicles worth Rs 81.84 million during the month of March 2020.

During the month of March, the Directorate of I&I Peshawar seized three number of offending vehicles worth Rs 6.7 million whereas the I&I seized 10 numbers of NDP vehicles worth Rs 21.8 million.

He further told that the Directorate also seized huge quantity of smuggled goods comprising fabric, electronic goods, cigarettes and others worth Rs.53.34 million. The total value of seized smuggled goods during the month is estimated to be  Rs 81 millions.

Answering another query he said that the Directorate seized a huge consignment of opium during the month of March and filed FIR against the offenders, adding that the opium consignment of 8.250 kilograms was of worth Rs.9.9 million. This anti smuggling drive will be continued and smuggling will be tackled with iron hands, the Additional Director concluded.
