Peshawar I&I foils bid to smuggle Iranian diesel, tomatoes

PESHAWAR: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) team recovered Iranian diesel and tomatoes worth millions of rupees from a Hino truck coming from DI Khan.

Sources told Customs Today that Additional Collector Wajid Ali received credible information about smuggling of Iranian diesel under the garb of tomatoes from Balochistan to Bannu via Zhob (DI Khan).

He said that the staff of Field Intelligence Unit (FIU) held ‘naka bandi’ near Grid Station Daraban Road DI Khan, when the suspicious truck was signaled to stop which was apparently found loaded with wooden crates of tomatoes. In order to confirm the veracity of information, some crates of tomatoes were removed which revealed the presence of Iranian diesel in the plastic cans placed beneath the tomatoes.

Wajid Ali told that the truck was therefore brought to the office of Customs Intelligence and Investigation for thorough examination which resulted in the recovery of 539 plastic cans of Iranian diesel total 17500 liters and 780 wooden crates of tomatoes total 7000 kilograms. He told that the driver of the truck in his statement said that the owner of the Iranian diesel and tomatoes is one Fakhare Alam, a resident of Bannu.

The estimated value of the aforementioned seized goods and truck is around Rs 5.2 million (diesel Rs.1.9 million, tomatoes Rs 0.2 million and truck Rs 3 million). A case has been registered and further investigations are under progress.
