Petrol price in Pakistan includes Rs108.67 in taxes and margins

ISLAMABAD: Global crude oil and energy prices continue to face upward pressure amid tensions between the United States and Iran, while official documents show that local taxes and margins make up a significant portion of petroleum prices in Pakistan.

According to documents, local taxes and margins total Rs108.67 per litre on petrol, while Rs96.86 per litre is being charged in local taxes and margins on diesel.

The documents show that the price of petrol includes a Rs80 per litre petroleum levy and a Rs5 climate levy. In addition, the price comprises Rs7.16 per litre in freight charges, an Oil Marketing Company (OMC) margin of Rs7.87 per litre, and a dealer margin of Rs8.64 per litre.

Similarly, diesel carries a petroleum levy of Rs70.82 per litre and a Rs5 climate levy. The price also includes Rs4.53 per litre in freight charges, an OMC margin of Rs7.87 per litre, and a dealer margin of Rs8.64 per litre.
