MANILA: The Bureau of Customs (BoC) hopes to raise nearly P200 million from an auction of overstaying cargo, including over 200,000 sacks of rice, at the Manila port this month.
The rice sacks arrived in 2013, but the agency is only able to auction it off now due to pending cases in court.
The BoC filed a smuggling complaint against the shipments’ importers two years ago for bringing in rice without proper government permits.
Other items up for sale are assorted motorcycle parts, bicycles, appliances, furnitures, and even toys.
The auction is set for August 25th.
