KARACHI: The Directorate General, Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I), plans to request the higher authorities of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to re-profile the importers of the Green Channel.

The stance to re-profile the importers of the Green Channel came after several cases surfaced regarding the mis-declaration, especially betel nut cases registered by the Port Muhammad Bin Qasim (PQA) during the last month of February.

The source has stated that a large number of importers of the Green Channel are involved in the crime to give space to the Red Channel or the importers who are not in the list of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to import their consignments.

The source stated that the Tax Reform Commission (TRC) recommended the qualification for the placement on green channel so that company should be registered under the Companies Ordinance 1984 and be a manufacturer/industrial importer in January 2016, but many importers of the green channel are violating the rules and regulations.

The Tax Reform Commission (TRC) suggested the green channel importers to release their consignments under dispute either against an undertaking or corporate guarantee depending upon the nature of dispute which must be reviewed, said the source.

After the police crackdown on Supari/Gukta mafia, the rates of the Betel nuts skyrocketed which attracted the importers to dump their stock so that further demand can be increased to earn heavy income, source informed.

Now the plan is underway to request the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to re-profile the importers of the Green Channel to avail the facility.
