ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has once again increased power tariff by 52 paisa per unit on account of monthly fuel price adjustment despite a plunge in the price of furnace in the international oil market.

Nepra acting Chairman Habibullah Khilji took the decision during a public hearing. The power consumers will now have to pay Rs4.5 billion after this decision. However, the tariff hike would not affect the consumers of K-Electric and the consumers who use 50 units a month.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) revealed during the hearing that total power generation in September 2014 was registered more than 8.77 billion units, compared to 330 million units less in September 2013.
