Preventive Peshawar generates Rs595m through seizures: Collector Asif Saeed Khan

PESHAWAR: Collector of Customs Preventive Asif Saeed Khan said that smuggled goods and vehicles worth Rs 595 million were seized in the month of November 2019.

Collector Asif Saeed Khan told Customs Today on Thursday that most of the seizures were carried out by intelligence based operations in October and November 2019. All the anti-smuggling units performed very well and made record seizures in November.

The Collector sharing the details said that all 9 anti-smuggling units of MCC Preventive in different raids and road interceptions boasted revenue collection. The Preventive Peshawar collectively seized 76 kgs hashish and foreign cloth worth Rs203 million. The MCC Preventive Peshawar team also seized black tea net weight 6157 kgs and 906 tyres along with 2123 mobile phones and 4.1kg gold, auto parts worth Rs 20 million, miscellaneous goods worth Rs 101 million were also seized.

He said the Customs Preventive team also dumped 23 non duty paid vehicles. These seizures worth millions of rupees were carried out in order to curb the menace of smuggling from KP in which Police also contributed. The collector talking about seizure operations said intelligence based operation conducted by MCC Preventive team on godown at Ring Road Peshawar and seized foreign origin cloth and cigarettes valuing Rs 43.78 million. The MCC Peshawar Preventive team also intercepted a vehicle containing foreign origin cloth and cigarettes valuing Rs 39.56 million at Peshawar Islamabad Motorway.

Collector Customs Preventive Peshawar Asif Saeed Khan further said that magnificent performance of collectorate preventive has brought increase in revenue collection as compared to collection of previous year in same period of time. The Customs Collector added that enforcement operations carried out in current month resulted in mega seizures of smuggled cigarettes along other non duty paid goods which is a proof that customs enforcement operations are successfully curbing the menace of smuggling.

The Collector added a special plan has been executed in order to curb the menace of smuggling of foreign origin cloth from Torkham Border to other parts of the province.
