KABUL: The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) on Wednesday said that the private sector in the country suffered nearly $10 million USD in damages following the deadly truck bombing in Kabul on Wednesday.
The explosion killed over 80 people and wounded hundreds more. The ACCI said that extensive damage was caused to countless houses and buildings in a two kilometer radius.
“Besides the financial losses inflicted on the private sector as a result of the attack, the majority of those killed and wounded were part of the work force who were working at banks, hospitals and private companies. This is a great loss for the private sector,” said ACCI deputy chief Khan Jan Alokozai.
“You can see all the floors in the building have been damaged and everything has been destroyed, right now I cannot estimate the scale of the loss, but we suffered a lot,” said Ahmad Jawed, the owner of a travel agency in Kabul.
“The explosion was huge, except for the walls – everything else was affected,” said Farid, an employee of a private company close to the scene of the explosion.
“Although the incident that happened today is a distance from us, you can see that our stock has been damaged and we suffered major losses,” said Haji Shekib Sattari, from UK Sports store.
The ACCI has said that the continuation of such attacks would have a major impact on investments and economic activities in the country and that such attacks could undermine investment in the country.
