PSQCA directed to stop sealing factories

LAHORE: On demand of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Federal Minister of Science and Technology Rana Tanvir Hussain has stopped Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) from sealing industrial units before serving three fortnightl0079 notices.

The LCCI President Abdul Basit had informed the Federal Minister for Science and Technology Rana Tanvir Hussain during his visit to the Lahore Chamber of Commerce of Commerce and Industry that sealing of industrial units is a burning issue and hurting the smooth running of business activities. Federal Minister took a prompt action on the LCCI President’s intimation and Ministry of Science and Technology issued a notification with the signs of the Federal Minister.

According to the notification the PSQCA has been directed to serve three fortnightly notices to the relevant industry. After that in case of non-compliance, stern action like sealing the unit and other appropriate measures would be taken.

The notification says that “We have discussed and decided that before taking extreme measures for implementation of quality standards, we should serve three notices to the relevant industry fortnightly. After that in case of non-compliance, we must take stern action like sealing the unit and other appropriate measures. We should proceed accordingly”

The LCCI President Abdul Basit welcomed the issuance of notification and said that that timely measure of the Federal Minister for Science and Technology Rana Tanvir Hussain would go a long way and certainly reduce the miseries of the business community. He said that it would also help build trust between the government and the private sector that is a need of the hour. He said that direct action of sealing the factories by the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) was harassing the industrialists but after issuance directions by the Federal Minister to PSQCA, situation would take a positive turn.

“All government departments and trade and industry related ministries should follow suit and play a supportive role to energize the business community that is an engine of growth”, the LCCI President said. He said that business must be provided opportunities to supplement the government endeavors aimed at economic uplift of the country.
