PSX again closes flat over volatility

KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange Wednesday again witnessed a volatile session and closed almost flat as the benchmark 100-Index gained only 18.18 to reach 50162.81 points level.

The stocks recorded the highest trading level of 50349.10 points and lowest level of 49968.74 points, with the volume of over 232 million shares and value of Rs11.32 billion. As many as 373 companies were active; of which 189 advanced, 166 declined and 18 remained unchanged.

Dewan Farooque was the volume leader with 23 million shares, shedding Re1 to reach Rs9.14. It was followed by Engro Polymer with 21.27 million shares, adding Rs1.72 to end at Rs36.28 and Power Cement with 19.68 million shares, losing Rs 0.30 to close at Rs1.92.

The top three gainers were Sanofi-Aventis with price per share of 2086 (86), Hinopak Motor with price per share of 1708.13 (78.76) and Service Ind. Ltd of 1452 (57).

The top three losers were Colgate Palmolive with price per share of 2310 (-91.16), Indus Motor Co with price per share of 1977.34 (-21.04) and Agriautos Ind share of 450 (-10).

Earlier, the stocks witnessed a volatile session after opening and gained 15 points to reach 50149 points level. The PSX remained under pressure till midday as it shed 43.49 points to drop to 50101.14 points level.

On Tuesday, the PSX benchmark shares index after making an intraday high of 190 points and an intraday low of 201 points, finally closed 24 points up at 50,144.63 level.

Market participation thinned with volumes declining 9pc to 232 million share, while traded value fell 2pc to Rs13.5 billion/$129 million.
