KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange Wednesday continued its upward journey to record level and gained 191.72 points to take the tally to 38751.60 points level at closing.
The stocks recorded the highest trading level of 39039.67 points and lowest level of 38392.00 points, with the volume of 256 million shares, having over Rs 17.5 billion value. As many as 326 companies were active; of which 143 advanced, 166 declined and 17 remained unchanged.
Cement was the top traded sector with 43,417,100 volume, while commercial banks remained second with 42,914,000 volume
The three top traded companies were K-Electric Ltd with a volume of 22,134,500 and price per share of 8.05 (-0.18), Pak Int.Bulk with a volume 21,276,500 of price per share of 33.67 (0.28), PTCL with a volume 13,554,000 of price per share of 15.51 (0.47).
The top three gainers were The Searle Co.Ltd with price per share 597.04 (26.35), MCB Bank Ltd with price per share of 243.72 (11.48) and Habib Bank price per share of 200.92 (9.56).
The top three losers were Nestle Pak XD with price per share of 7300 (-100), Hinopak Motor SPOT with price per share of 1035.52 (-38.93) and Mari Petroleum per share of 949.58 (-32.90).
Earlier, the bullish trend continued at the Paksitan Stock Exchange as benchmark 100-index added 473 points to achieve another milestone of 39,000 and reached 39032 points level till midday.
On Wednesday, the MSCI’s announcement about the country’s upgrade from the frontier to emerging markets status helped the benchmark-100 index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) surge 2.78% or 1,042.12 points to finish at its all-time high of 38,560.
MSCI is a leading provider of international investment decision support tools. Its decision to upgrade the country from the frontier markets status is expected to generate inflow of millions of dollars from passive international funds that track MSCI indices. Shares of 348 companies were traded. At the end of the day, 204 stocks closed higher, 120 declined while 24 remained unchanged. The value of shares traded during the day was Rs19 billion.
