PSX closes bearish, drops 83pts

KARACHI: Opened with positive note, the Pakistan Stock Exchange dropped all the early gains and closed negative, losing 82.92 points to reach 36499.43 points level on Wednesday.

The stocks recorded the highest trading level of 36767.24 points and lowest level of 36483.21 points, with the volume of over 269 million shares, having over Rs 9 billion value. As many as 363 companies were active; of which 164 advanced, 174 declined and 25 remained unchanged.

Power generation & distribution was the top traded sector with 68,163,400 volume, while oil cement remained second with 30,244,300 volume.

The three top traded companies were K-Electric Ltd with a volume of 50,122,500 and price per share of 8.03 (-0.14), Pace (Pak) Ltd with a volume 22,692,500 of price per share of 7.41 (0.33), Power Cement Ltd with a volume 18,361,000 of price per share of 11.35 (0.43).

The top three gainers were Bata (Pak) with price per share 3700 (80), Bhanero Tex with price per share of 704.55 (33.55) and Service Ind.Ltd price per share of 811.25 (30.91).

The top three losers were Sanofi-Aventis with price per share of 540 (-20), Sunrays Textile with price per share of 309.48 (-16.28) and Khyber Tobacco share of 398.90 (-12.41).

Earlier, the stocks recouped the overnight losses as benchmark 100-index gained 159.72 points to reach 35742.07 points level in early trading. Despite losing some early gains, the Pakistan Stock Exchange remained in green zone and gained 39.63 points to reach 36621.98 points level till midday.

On Tuesday, the local equities snapped their seven-day positive streak as the benchmark KSE-100 index dipped close to the 36,500 level amid profit-taking and lack of interest in financial stocks. At close on Tuesday, the Pakistan Stock Exchange’s (PSX) benchmark KSE 100-share index fell 0.38% or 141 points to end at 36,582.35. Trade volumes rose to 298 million shares compared with Monday’s tally of 265 million. Shares of 385 companies were traded. At the end of the day, 156 stocks closed higher, 199 declined while 30 remained unchanged. The value of shares traded during the day was Rs11.4 billion.
