KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange Thursday witnessed another volatile day as the benchmark 100-index gained only 7.49 points to close flat at 40468.49 points level.
The stocks recorded the highest trading level of 41179.88 points and lowest level of 39869.88 points, with the volume of over 150 million shares and value of Rs8.27 billion. As many as 383 companies were active; of which 154 advanced, 210 declined and 19 remained unchanged.
TRG Pak Ltd was the volume leader with 12.01 million shares, adding Rs0.33 to reach Rs34.20. It was followed by Chakwal Spinning with 7.51 million shares, shedding Re1 to end at Rs10.92 and BoP with 7.45 million shares, gaining Rs0.04 to close at Rs9.09.
The top three gainers were Sanofi-Aventis with price per share of 1782 (77.61), Nestle Pakistan with price per share of 12999.83 (70.16) and Bhanero Tex of 761.71 (36.26).
The top three losers were Bata (Pak) with price per share of 2900 (-50), Pak. Int. Cont. with price per share of 313.50 (-16.50) and Pak Services share of 1000 (-14.99).
Earlier, the stocks recouped with 232 points to reach 40693 points level in early trading. The Pakistan Stock Exchange shed the early gains till midday as the benchmark 100-index dropped 178 points to reach 40282.54 points level.
On Wednesday, panic selling was witnessed at the PSX and market continued its steep decline during the initial hours of yesterday’s trading session, making an intra-day low of 1,246 points.
However, buying in heavyweight stocks during the latter hours resulted in recovery in the KSE 100-index as it closed at 40,461 points after losing 655 points. Volume leaders during the day were ASL, PKGP, KEL, BOP and CWSM, making up 24% of the total market activity during the day.
