KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange Tuesday secured another milestone as the benchmark 100-index crossed the psychological barrier of 44,000 and closed at 44199.40 points level after gaining 459.43 points.
The stocks recorded the highest trading level of 44236.89 points and lowest level of 43739.97 points, with the volume of over 372.58 million shares and value of Rs 19.72 billion. As many as 407 companies were active; of which 214 advanced, 179 declined and 14 remained unchanged.
K-Electric was the volume leader with 22.80 million shares, adding Rs 0.18 to finish at Rs 9.41. It was followed by Fauji Cement with 17.31 million shares, gaining Rs 1.95 to end at Rs 41.10 and Faysal Bank with 16.78 million shares, gaining Rs 0.73 to close at Rs 20.80.
The top three gainers were Rafhan Maize with price per share of 8078.45 (288.45), Wyeth Pak Ltd with price per share of 4565.40 (217.40) and Philip Morris Pak share of 2239.12 (106.62).
The top three losers were Unilever Foods with price per share of 5600 (-100), Khyber Tobacco with price per share of 1115.30 (-58.70) and Pak Tobacco per share of 1039.55 (-30.12).
Earlier, the PSX opened bullish and added 150.54 points to reach 43890.51 points level in early trading. The upward rally continued at the Pakistan Stock Exchange as the benchmark 100-index added 253.47 points level till midday.
On Monday, the PSX touched new highs of 43,740 points after rallying by 469 points. E&Ps led the gains in the market as the sector closed up 4.3% as crude oil prices surged to trade above $52/bbl. OGDC (up 4.93%) and POL (3.81%) were major movers of the aforementioned sector. FCCL (up 2.17%) and CHCC (1.52%) were top performers in the sector. Fertilizer sector also continued its positive momentum on the back of surge in international urea prices as well as on the ECC’s decision to cut gas prices by Rs200/mmbtu for industrial consumers, which is also applicable on gas fuel for fertilizer industry. Of total 417 active scrips that participated in session, 213 closed in green, 186 in red while 18 remained unchanged.
