PSX sheds another 247pts as bearish note persists

KARACHI: The bearish note continued in the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) as benchmark KSE-100 index lost 247.42 points to drop to 32710.560 points level at closing on Thursday.

The stocks recorded the highest trading level of 33080.68 points and lowest level of 32671.23 points, with the volume of 136 million shares, having about Rs6.84 billion value. As many as 324 companies were active; of which 110 advanced, 200 declined and 14 remained unchanged.

Cement was the top traded sector with 28,846,900 volume, while technology & communication remained second with 17,821,000 volume.

The three top traded companies were Dewan Cement with a volume of 14,457,000 and price per share of 12.14 (0.12), TRG Pak Ltd with a volume 7,595,500 of price per share of 27.36 (-0.70), PTCL with a volume 7,173,500 of price per share of 14.82 (0.07).

The top three gainers were Bata (Pak) with price per share 3300 (50), Murree Brewery with price per share of 811 (26) and Atlas Battery price per share of 599.97 (9.97).

The top three losers were Unilever Foods with price per share of 5300.33 (-124.67), Indus Motor Co XD with price per share of 940.95 (-18.69) and Ghandhara Ind per share of 371.69 (-13.15).

Earlier, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) opened negative and shed 19.87 points to reach 32938.11 points level in early trading. The bearish note continued till midday as the PSX lost 125.08 points to reach 32832.90 points level.

On Wednesday, the PSE amid global stocks rout and fall in crude prices as the benchmark 100-share index lost 74.87 points (0.23%) to close at 32,957.98 points. After closing in the green for the last 10 trading sessions (and gaining ~8%), the market took a breather yesterday as investors closed out their positions, dealers said. Traded volume decreased 5.5% to 204m shares and traded value decreased 21% to Rs9.0b. Out of total 327 active companies, 178 closed in advance, 132 in decline while 17 remained unchanged.
