LAHORE: The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department has decided to interlink all motor branches across the province to discourage fake registration and agent mafia.

According to Excise and Taxation Director Ahmad Saeed, the interlinking system in all motor branches will help the department stop fake registration and frauds in motor braches.

The cases of dual registration against a vehicle are also increasing day by day due to manual system, he said.

He added that the online system would not only eliminate such cases but also remove black sheep in the department. He highlighted that the agent mafia with the help of corrupt officials works illegally. He said that there were a number of cases in the legal section of excise in which more than one person claimed the ownership of the same vehicle, and all of them had original and authentic registration books.

He also said that due to the absence of the interlinked system in the registration branch, one district could not get access of the record of the other, which created hurdles for officials in determining whether a vehicle was registered with another district or not.

Because of the old system, vehicles were registered without knowing the custom duty record of a vehicle, and now it will be possible after the interconnected system, he said.

Ahmad Saeed informed this scribe that work on this project had already started and it would be completed within a few months.
