LAHORE: The provincial government has amended the Punjab Revenue Authority Act 2012 to validate the authority and its actions with effect from the date of the enactment of the law.

Governor Punjab Raffique Rajwana has also signed the ordinance after amendment.

Ordinance was challenged in Courts for many times due to various weaknesses which forced the provincial government to take serious action to face the challenges and amendment was the only issue government officials told Customs Today.

The actions of the authority including levy, charging, collection and realisation of the sales tax on services have been challenged in the Courts on the ground that the authority was to be created under a notification of the government after enactment of the law, but it was not done. And the authority began to collect revenue.

Another objection has been that the government was required to appoint chairperson and four members of the authority which it did not. Instead a single member continued to run the authority.

Now the government has addressed all concerned issues and objections in newly issued amended ordinance which is expected to solve problems in collection of revenue in the wake of all implemented taxes.
