Punjab govt making efforts to expand tax net: Ayesha Ghaus

SIALKOT: Punjab Finance Minister Dr. Ayesha Ghaus Pasha has said that the government was making all out sincere efforts for expanding the tax net besides striving to purge the revenue collection from corruption.

She said that the government was also committed to streamline the revenue collection system and to develop an effective and advanced mechanism for revenue collection under the supervision of Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) for ensuring the timely achieving of all the official targets of revenue collection in Punjab.

She stated this while addressing an important meeting of Board of Directors (BoD) held at Sialkot Dry Port Trust (SDPT) here today.

Sialkot Dry Port Trust (SDPT) Chairman Khawar Anwar Khawaja, Sialkot International Airport Limited (SIAL) Chairman Malik Muhammad Ashraf, Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) Operations Member Javaid Ahmed and several leading Sialkot exporters attended the meeting.

Punjab Finance Minister Dr. Ayesha Ghaus Pasha added that the payment of taxes always plays a pivotal role in socio-economic development of any society and the timely collection of revenue n shape of different taxes also paves the way of achievement of the socio-economic development targets.

She said that revenue collection system in shape of different taxes has been made much simple and easy in Punjab under the supervision of Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) to facilitate the tax payers at maximum level.

She said that the levy of taxes by the Punjab government was not affecting the exports of the country, saying that the government was spending these taxes on the development of socio-economic infrastructure across Punjab.

Punjab Finance Minister, on this occasion, directed the senior officials of Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) to develop a mechanism of soft collection of taxes from the Sialkot exporters under the supervision of Sialkot Dry Port Trust (SDPT) here, besides, removing the reservations of Sialkot exporters regarding taxpaying system as well.

She also directed the PRA high ups to resolve Sialkot exporters’ tax related problems amicably.

Punjab Finance Minister Dr. Ayesha Ghaus Pasha said that the government’s effective policies were giving an economical and political boost to the country, as the hectic efforts of the present government would also become fruitful soon.

She added that the economical stability was the priority of the present government through solving the energy crisis.

She said that the government is continuing its economical development agenda by taking the business community into confidence, saying that economical agenda was helping in putting the country on the highway of economical stability.

Punjab Finance Minister revealed that government was fully aware of the prolonged perturbing problems of the business community and making all out sincere efforts for their amicable solution.

She added that the government was also strengthening national economy and boosting the tax collection structure, besides, striving to overcome the menace of the prolonged persisting energy crisis.

She termed Sialkot as “jewel into the national economy”, saying that Sialkot was an engine for boosting the national economy. She highly hailed the unique export culture of Sialkot.

Dr. Ayesha Ghaus Pasha narrated that the present government’s effective and positive economical policies were helping in restoring the confidence of the national and foreign investors and these policies were now bearing fruits due to which national economy was moving ahead towards the goal of economical stability, saying the government was successfully implementing on several effective and positive economical policies and these policies were now bearing fruits.

She linked the national economical prosperity with the political stability and continuity of the economical and export development policies in the country. She narrated that the national economy was moving in the right direction towards the goal of political and economical stability, saying that the country needed the development of the human resources for the continuous economical growth as well.

She said that the government was successfully injecting the fresh blood into the sick economy of Pakistan through the restoration of confidence of the national and foreign investors, in this regard.

On this occasion, Sialkot Dry Port Trust (SDPT) Chairman Khawar Anwar Khawaja revealed that the Sialkot exporters had been playing their pivotal role in strengthening the national economy and boosting the national exporting by earning foreign exchange to the tune of $2 billion annually.
